3 Tips For Arranging Your Living Room Furniture
Whether big or small, your living room can easily be arranged in a way to maximize space and make your entire area feel much more comfortable and welcoming. The trick, however, is knowing how to situate your furniture and other items in order to reach this goal, which may not be as intuitive as you may have thought.
To help you with this in your own home, here are three tips for arranging your living furniture to make the most of the space you have.
Stay Away From The Walls
One thing that many people do in their living rooms that can actually make your space feel smaller is pushing your furniture and decor pieces up against the walls.
According to Lauren Flanagan, a contributor to The Spruce, it’s best for every piece of furniture in your living room to have some room to breathe from other pieces of furniture and from any of the walls in the room. To accomplish this, you’ll want to pull your furniture away from the walls of your living room. Even if you may initially think that that will make your space feel smaller, the opposite is actually true. And for rooms that have a lot of space in them, leaving as much room between your furniture and your walls, even if it’s several feet, will continue to make your living room feel spacious.
Point Toward The View
For some, knowing where to put certain pieces of furniture and how to layout their living room is their biggest challenge.
To help you make this decision easier for you, the editors of Better Homes and Gardens, advise that you point all of your furniture toward the view that you want people to most focus on. In some living rooms, this might be the TV and TV stand or the entertainment center. In other living rooms, pointing your furniture toward the windows could be the best view. And if you’re most interested in what’s going on in the rest of the home, pointing your main furniture toward the other living space might make the most sense for you.
Situate Your Rugs Correctly
In many homes, living rooms have hardwood flooring as opposed to carpeting. However, many find that they want the comfort and warmth that more padding on the floor can bring. Because of this, area rugs are very common in living rooms. But to place your area rug correctly, you need to understand how to fit it in and around your furniture.
Ideally, Dabney Frake, a contributor to Apartment Therapy, shares that all legs or corners of your furniture should be on the rug so the furniture doesn’t wobble. But if you can’t make this happen, having just the front part on the rug will do.
To help you have the most beautiful and comfortable living room, consider implementing the tips mentioned above as you position your furniture.
