How to Decorate for the Holidays Sustainably

As the holiday season slowly approaches one must consider the environmental impact decorations might have. For Christmas, so many houses are decorated with lights, snow machines, or much more. This can be costly since most items are not solar powered. Helen Lee Schifter, who specializes in wellness and sustainability, urges her friends and family to reuse decorations or recycle old ones.

When new holiday decor is released, it’s hard to not spend money on it. However, most of the items are made of plastic or non-sustainable materials. Experts recommend swapping decorations with family members or recycling ones that are not of use anymore.Giving to shelters and donation centers are also great ways to be sustainable. From Thanksgiving to New Years, so many plastic decorations are produced that just end up being thrown out. Helen Lee Schifter believes that repurposing those items is another alternative to throwing it in the dumpster. Being sustainable isn’t easy, but it’s the right thing to do.
